RECENT ACORA PROJECTS
Acora have been involved in a diverse range of projects over the years from Australia and New Zealand. We pride ourselves on our quality workmanship and expertise in all areas of sawmill and general manufacturing.
AKD Queensland Vision Scanner
AKD Queensland chose Acora for the design, fabrication, installation and project management for their vision scanning system.
The scanner came from Nth America, Acora was charged with the installation of the main equipment and the design and fabrication of the required handling equipment and existing steel modification and integration into the existing system. In 2013 the same mill chose Acora for the replacement of their planer line, so it was great to be back 10 years later to make the line improvements.
Highland Pine Vision Scanner
HPP chose Acora for the installation of their vision scanning system – this was the 3rd such installation we had done, so we were confident in our ability to complete the work in the required time frame.
We had done the original drymill upgrade work for HPP back in 2003 and it was very satisfying to see that equipment lended itself so well to upgrades, as it was designed to be modular and low maintenance.
With a tight window to make the modifications and installation, ACORA team spent the pre-Christmas of 2022 on preparatory work and started on Boxing day on the main installation, completing the work for the planned start-up of the mill.
Working with the HPP proved yet another successful partnership
CHH Kawerau Log Sorter
To improve the mill performance, Carter Holt Harvey (CHH) decided to add a log sorting line to their mill. The large logs required extra heavy duty equipment and specialist engineering
CHH chose Acora as the primary supplier, responsible for design, fabrication and installation. Working closely with the CHH engineering team, Acora built the Primary and Secondary decks and a double acting step feeder, which included a bark scraper.
The singulated logs are fed into a log haul through a Nicholson A8 debarker, are scanned and sorted into one of 12 bins.
Start up went well and delivered within required project parameters.
CHH then awarded Acora the job of building their new sawline line to allow the increased log feeding rates required, given the improvement of the sawline being fed with sorted logs.
TimberLink Project Breezeway
TimberLink entrusted Acora with the responsibility of removing a scanning, chop saw and finger jointing line out of their NZ operation and re-installing it into an existing line at their Bell Bay Tasmania plant.
The project required specific project management to ensure the line was removed professionally and the integrity of all cabling and connections.
Integration into the new line presented some challenges, but working with the TimberLink team and several other supplies, the line integrated as planned. A lot of detailed design work and careful planning ensure it met the needs ot the TLA Management
OFO 180 LPM
One Forty One planned to increase their production capacity which required them to be able to run at 180 lugs per minute – to achieve this they chose Acora to design, supply and install the equipment.
The project parts included;
– Automatic Pack wrapping line capable of 60 packs per hour
– A lug loading and positioning fence system capable of running at 180 lugs per minute
– A Dual Acting tilt hoist to feed the planing line
– A dual fork stacker to run at 22 layers per minute.
– Plus the installations needed to be installed during normal breaks they were broken down into 4 projects, starting with the wrapper and finishing with the dual tilt hoist.
All project milestones were met and the installations completed on time and in a safe incident free manner.
Acora are especially proud of this achievement, which couldn’t have been done without the incredible team we partnered with at One Forty One
VIDA Pack Saw
Vida are a very large importer of timber and required a system to allow them to cut long length packs into shorter lengths to meet customer demands in a timely manner and to the highest quality
The chose the team of Acora and their Austrian supplier Prinz for a versatile and accurate pack sawing system. Also required was a waste system to ensure safe handling of the residue, Acora designed and supplied drop bottom bins that are operated form the forklift without the operator needing to leave the cabin.
Prinz are one of the world largest suppliers of pack saws and partnered with Acora’s local knowledge and service expertise – it was an excellent project.
